Though the blog is called “Life in Rennes” a post on a cemetry. Well, death is part of life.

Last Sunday was All Saints’ Day. I had planned for a while to go the cemetiere de l’Est – it was the perfect day to go. The weather was splendid – deep blue sky, sunshine all day and temperatures approaching 20 degrees (Celsius).
The cemetery was relatively easy to find – follow the people with flowers. But it was not necessary to carry the big pots to the cemetry, as close to it is not only a large flower shop, but also a flower market directly in front of the gate took place that day.

The cemetery is nice to walk in with its streets shaded by trees.

Many of the graves had already fresh flowers or permanent ones, even when the deceased had passed away long time ago. The large grave with rather few flowers is the last home for deceased from a monastery.
