Vitré is just 30 minutes with the train to the east of Rennes. Lying on the border of Brittany to Normandie, Maine and Anjou it was in the past an important part of border protection. The castle still speaks of this history. It sits in an elevated position on a rock above the river Vilaine, wich meanders through the meadows just below the castle.

The castle is in its completeness and size quite impressive and dominating, together with the church Notre Dame the skyline of the small town.Yesterday it was a sunny day after weeks of rain – the  castle was the perfect place to visit with the view from Place St-Yves, the river Vilaine, Place de Chateau and the ramparts.
