the chapelle Saint Barbara at Roscoff

Not far from the center of Roscoff, the port town in the north of Finistère with its ferries to UK, is this small chapel sitting on a rock, overlooking the sea. I could not find much about the chapel, besides that it is quite frequented in summer (I had noticed that) and that it has its own pardon, a Breton form of pilgrimage. Without knowing any details about the chapel, I had the feeling that it is looking out for the seamen, telling them good-bye, greeting them when they are back and provide a place for mourning in case they are never seen again.

It is a lovely small piece of treasury, sitting on its rock with the great view on the sea and the town of Roscoff.Unfortunately it was not possible to enter the chapel, so I can only offer views of the outside and the view from there.

  1. Thanks forth comment. It is indeed quite a charming place. Coming from Roscoff one can see the chapel for a while. And then walking up the few meters suddenly the view on the ocean opens – quite an experience.
