This picture was last Saturday when I came back from the market to the central place in front of the city hall. I had missed the stand regarding the international women’s day. 8th of March – today.

I liked to idea to have the grill in front, as a barrier – less subtle than a glass ceiling. Today the Economist published the latest glass ceiling index. The Nordic countries – Iceland, Sweden and Norway – are on the top with the best working environent for women. France is ranked 6 with a score of 60 plus something like 6 or 7, not bad, but the situation is already about 20 points worse (on a scale of 100) than Iceland.A closer look reveals that this relative good position is earned due to a high percentage of women on company boards. Not sure how this woman in the picture or I benefit from this fact. Germany, my home country is on rank 19 with a score close to 60. But the difference on the actual index to France is not that high as from rank 5 to 20 (taken by US) the decline is rather gradual. The surprise for me: Switzerland on rank 26 with a score just above 40.

Still a long way to go.
